Oologah gets its name from a Cherokee chief called Oologah (Dark Cloud). Visitors enjoy fishing, camping, boating and swimming on Oologah lake. Oologah is located just 30 minutes from Tulsa on Hwy 169.

Humorist Will Rogers was born on Dog Iron Ranch two miles east of Oologah, though he was known to claim Claremore as his birthplace. Dog Iron Ranch is open to visitors daily.
