Claremore is the county seat of Rogers county with a population of 17,200. It is the location of Rogers State University, the only public four year university in the Tulsa area.
Claremore is best known as home to legendary figure Will Rogers. Although born in Oologah he was quoted as saying "Only an Indian could pronounce Oologah" and so he called Claremore his home. The Will Rogers Memorial is located in Claremore, OK.
Roger and Hammerstein's musical "Oklahoma" is set in the surrounding area of Claremore. The musical was adapted from the original play "Green Grow the Lilacs" written by Claremore local Lynn Riggs.
